Political parties kick into high gear ahead of November election

We are just 100 days out until the November election. Voters on both sides of the aisle tell KHOU they're feeling energized.

HOUSTON — There are just 100 days until the November election and within the last week, we’ve seen a major shift in this election. Both sides of the aisle are in full force ahead of November.

On Sunday afternoon at White Oak Music Hall, folks piled in to support Rep. Colin Allred -- the Democratic nominee running for Texas Senator against incumbent Ted Cruz.

“I will continue to work across the aisle not because that's the goal, but because getting things done is the goal,” Allred said.

Allred’s campaign event is part of a statewide grassroots effort to take Cruz’s seat.

“Three more months, 100 more days to make sure that what we do in this county changes the country,” Harris County Democratic Party Chair Mike Doyle said.

Supporters at Allred’s event said they felt energized.

“Lots of people especially like to be pessimistic every time they think of politics. But I just see more and more reasons to get involved. There are many issues that will uplift, not just young, but old, all middle class, any class of Americans,” Benjamin Rizck said.

“My son and I’ve been campaigning for him and volunteering today at this event, and we're excited to be part of a movement,” Clay Sands said.

Meanwhile, the other side of the aisle feels the same way.

“Have never seen the party this energized, this excited, and this unified. I was in Milwaukee as an alternate delegate, and the energy there was electric. It has not slowed down in the week since,” Harris County Republican Party Communications Director Sam Somogye said.

The Harris County Republican Party is fully behind Cruz.

“Working hand in hand with the campaign, doing everything we can to drive our voters out to support him. Block walking with his campaign phone banking with his campaign,” Somogye said.

Somogye said they’re ready to support all Republican candidates who will be on the ballot.

Whether it's President (Donald) Trump, to our judicial candidates and everything in between. And we're really working on targeting independent voters with a message that resonates with them,” Somogye said.

Both sides of the aisle are ready to support all their candidates on the ballot and with Houston being one of the largest cities with lots of voters more campaign stops can be expected.

Vice President Kamala Harris is set to return to Houston Wednesday for a fundraiser with tickets starting at $3,300.
