Republican Congresswoman claims the Party will maintain its momentum through November

U.S. Representative Monica De La Cruz says that the attempted assassination of former President Trump, and the party’s message of unity is motivating the party.

DALLAS — The Republican National Convention has created a lot of momentum for Republicans. However, the election is still four months away – a lifetime in politics. But Conservatives believe they can maintain that momentum until November.

United States Representative Monica De La Cruz thinks several things that happened leading up to the convention and the party’s message of unifying the party and country will keep them motivated.

“There have been several things that have happened leading up to this event. Number one, the debate with Joe Biden, and then the attempted assassination on President Trump, all leading to the convention. And what message we got here was about unity unifying the party, unifying the country, and building towards November, “ Rep. De La Cruz told Inside Texas Politics.

De La Cruz also said it’s just not the convention but that the issues facing America will still be issues in November. She cites the number of illegal immigrants who are entering the country and inflation.

Latino voters often align more closely with the Democratic Party, but in the last two election cycles, Republicans have made inroads in South Texas, especially in McAllen. The Representative thinks that trend will continue.

“The trend is going to continue. Last night I was on the national stage, where Hispanics all across America got to hear my American dream story … They say that that's the party of hardworking Americans,” explained De La Cruz.

Immediately after the attempted assassination of President Trump, members of both parties talked about lowering the tone, reducing the rhetoric, and trying to get some more civility into politics. De La Cruz agreed that both parties should tone down the political discourse.

“I think that both sides of the aisle are able to tone it down a bit and to be able to just talk about America and putting America first and talk about the things that matter – inflation, securing our border. Those are the things Americans want to hear - policy. How do Americans afford life,” explained De La Cruz

De la Cruz also talked about the move by some Democrats to replace President Biden at the top of the Democratic ticket. And if a change would impact the Republican Party’s campaign strategy.

“We're not looking at Joe Biden. We'll let Democrats fight amongst themselves and talk about Joe Biden, and who's gonna replace them at the end of the day. Our winning ticket is President Trump and Vance,” the Congresswoman said.

She thinks that Trump’s selection of U.S. Senator (R-Ohio) is a good one. She believes that Vance will resonate with many Latinos because the senator is young, vibrant, and comes from poverty - working his way up to becoming the nominee for vice president of the United States.
