HOUSTON — U.S. Senate candidates Ted Cruz and Colin Allred launched a campaign blitz in the final week of the campaign, crisscrossing the Lone Star State to make their closing pitches to voters.
Polling has shown Cruz and Allred locked in a tight race with the contest having national attention as it could determine control of the U.S. Senate.
This week, Cruz continued a statewide bus tour starting the week in Conroe on Monday and making a stop in the Pleasanton-Jourdanton area Tuesday.
At his events, Cruz has aimed to tie Allred to Vice President Kamala Harris as well as focused on economic and border security issues.
"There is no greater threat to our security than the chaos at our southern border right now," Cruz told supporters in Conroe. "I worked hand in hand with President Trump to secure the border and we achieved incredible success."
Allred held three Houston events on Tuesday, including roundtable discussions on women's health and Black business and a get-out-the-vote event at Texas Southern University to end the day.
The Democrat was joined by Georgia Senator Raphael Warnock and former Destiny's Child member and Houston native LeToya Luckett.
At the first event, Allred told reporters he believed the issue of reproductive rights was one that could cross political lines and bring voters to his side.
"This is about making sure Texans know what is happening because I do come across some Texans who don't understand just how extreme this law is and who is responsible for it and what we can do about it, which is beating Ted Cruz in one week," Allred said of the state's near-total abortion ban that followed the overturning of Roe v. Wade.
