FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas — It’s shaping up to be a busy week of early voting in Fort Bend County. With day two underway they’re coming off a record day at the polls.
“There's more people here than I’ve seen in a long time,” Donna Williams said.
Voters like Donna and Steve Williams said they were eager to make sure their voices were heard.
“It's a privilege in this county to be able to vote,” Donna Williams said.
“I've always had an interest in politics since I was 10 years old,” Steve Williams said.
Fort Bend County Elections Administrator John Oldham said that on the first day of early voting, the county set a record for their single busiest early voting day ever with more than 32,000 ballots cast.
“We blew by our previous busiest day, which was two years ago on Friday, the last day by over 5,000,” Oldham said. “We had voters in line probably till about 8 or 7:45 (p.m.)”
If you're making plans to cast your vote in Fort Bend, election officials said the wait times have varied depending on the location.
“Some sites ran an hour to an hour and 15 minutes yesterday, but other ones were, you know, none whatsoever,” Oldham said.
Some voters opted to vote on the second day of early voting after seeing long lines on day one, but no matter what, they want others to get out and vote.
“It's our civic duty and, of course, I want my voice to be heard,” Cassidy Johnson said. “I think it's so important and if you really believe in something, then you should take action towards it.”
Around 4 p.m.Tuesday, officials told KHOU 11 that about 23,000 people cast their vote so far. Oldham said they expect to reach 30,000 by the end of the day.
You can cast your vote at any of the 33 locations across Fort Bend County until 7 p.m. and all locations will be open on Saturday.
