Vanessa Guillén's sister disputes reports that Trump promised, then refused to pay for her funeral

Vanessa Guillén's sister, Mayra Guillén, disputed the report. On X, she said that Trump did nothing but show respect to her family.

HOUSTON — Former President Donald Trump's campaign is fighting a new report from The Atlantic magazine that contains alleged remarks he made in the Oval Office four years ago.

According to the report, Trump promised and then refused to pay for the funeral of Vanessa Guillén, a soldier from Houston who was killed by a fellow soldier in 2020.

On X, Trump's former Chief of Staff Mark Meadows firmly denied the report, calling it "absolutely false."

"I was in the discussions featured in the Atlantic’s latest hit piece against President Trump," Meadows said in the post. "Let me say this. Any suggestion that President Trump disparaged Ms. Guillén or refused to pay for her funeral expenses is absolutely false.  He was nothing but kind, gracious, and wanted to make sure that the military and the U.S. government did right by Vanessa Guillén and her family."

Vanessa Guillén's sister, Mayra Guillén, also disputed the report. On X, she said that Trump did nothing but show respect to her family.

"Wow. I don’t appreciate how you are exploiting my sister’s death for politics- hurtful & disrespectful to the important changes she made for service members. President Donald Trump did nothing but show respect to my family & Vanessa. In fact, I voted for President Trump today," Mayra Guillén said on X.
