Cruz addresses supporters in Cypress, while Allred visits Dallas as November election nears

There are just over two months before the November election and the candidates for U.S. Senate in Texas spent Saturday addressing supporters.

CYPRESS, Texas — We're now just over two months away from the November election and the race for U.S. Senate in Texas is tightening.

A University of Houston and Texas Southern University survey showed Senator Ted Cruz up on his opponent Congressman Colin Allred by only two points.

Both campaigns are working to reach their supporters ahead of November.

Saturday evening, hundreds gathered in Cypress to hear from Senator Cruz, who's seeking reelection this November.

“I’m here tonight with a word of hope and a word of encouragement,” Cruz said while addressing his supporters.

Cruz’s stop in Cypress is the last of his “Keep Texas Texas” campaign tour, where the senator visited six cities in two days.

“Speak up and use your voice," he said. "This, as Margaret Thatcher famously said, first, you win the argument. Then you win the vote."

Voters were eager to hear from him, feeling energized ahead of Election Day.

“I really hope in this upcoming election that we’re gonna see some of the things Ted Cruz talked about tonight and I feel it was a great turnout tonight,” said Brook, a would-be voter.

Meanwhile, Democratic challenger Colin Allred was also making his way through the Lone Star State, speaking Saturday in Dallas where he launched his “Women for Allred Campaign.”

“We got 73 days," Allred told supporters. "Y'all seen the poll, and we are in a very, very close race. Okay, this is a close race. You know what this margin is? This is a margin that you can make happen, that we can make happen."

As both candidates make final pushes ahead of Election Day, voters urge their peers to cast their ballot no matter what side of the aisle.

“Do whatever you think is best to go by your heart, but do not do it without thought,” Brook said.

A reminder -- if you've not registered yet to vote, the deadline is Monday, Oct. 7.  Other important dates to remember include early voting, which begins on Oct. 21, the last day to apply for a mail-in ballot, which is Oct. 25 and Election Day on Nov. 5
