A person of interest in a brutal Midtown double murder surrendered to Houston police Thursday.
Community activist Quanell X identified her as Serenity Colquitt.
She is being questioned about the murders early Monday of Shante Thompson and Willie Sims.
Witnesses said the victims were swarmed by a group of up eight people armed with several weapons. They were beaten and shot.
It happened on Dennis Street near several popular bars and restaurants.
Quanell X admits Colquitt was at the shooting scene, but he said she is innocent.
Relatives said Thompson had recently began living her life as a transgender woman. According to witnesses, her killers included other members of the transgender community. Colquitt is also transgender.
