Grandmother pushing stroller struck by truck in southwest Houston, leaving 2-year-old grandson dead

Houston police said a grandmother was pushing her grandson in a stroller when they were hit by a truck in a crosswalk on Fuqua Street.

HOUSTON — A child was hit and killed by a pickup truck in southwest Houston on Thursday, according to authorities.

It happened along West Fuqua Street between Buffalo Speedway and Hiram Clarke Road around 10:30 a.m.

According to the Houston Police Department, a 64-year-old woman was pushing a stroller with her 2-year-old grandson inside when they were hit by a silver Chevrolet Silverado 2500. Investigators said the truck was turning left onto Fuqua from a stop sign on Bathurst Drive.

The grandmother and her grandson were in a crosswalk when they were hit, police said.

The toddler and woman were rushed to an area hospital where the child was pronounced dead. The woman suffered minor injuries, investigators said.

Houston police said the driver of the truck was 25 and didn't show any signs of intoxication. He was questioned and released.

Police said a preliminary investigation indicated the driver didn't yield the right-of-way to the pedestrians. No charges were filed but the investigation is ongoing.
