Police: Teen shot, killed at least 2 people, injured 6 more in Orlando

The suspected shooter, a 17-year-old, is in custody.

ORLANDO, Fla. — A mass shooting in downtown Orlando has left at least two people dead and six others hospitalized overnight Friday, police said. A 17-year-old is accused of firing those shots. 

Calls about the shooting started coming in just after 1 a.m. Friday on Central Boulevard and Orange Avenue in downtown Orlando. Minutes later, more calls of shots fired came in south of Washington Street and Orange Avenue. 

According to police, a total of eight people were shot by the same shooter. Two people died as a result of the shooting. The other six people were rushed to the hospital for treatment of their wounds. Police said in a news conference Friday morning those hospitalized are "stable." 

Not long after police responded to the shooting, the 17-year-old boy was found on Washington and Orange and taken into custody. 

At this time, 10 Tampa Bay is not naming the teen due to his age and uncertainty of his exact charges, including whether he will be charged as an adult.
