KEY WEST, Florida — Hurricane Debby made landfall in Florida Monday morning bringing more than just heavy rains and wind.
According to a post on X, U.S. Border Patrol Acting Chief Patrol Agent Samuel Briggs II said Hurricane Debby blew 25 packages of cocaine onto a beach in the Florida Keys.
Briggs said the packages of cocaine were found by a good Samaritan who then contacted authorities.
The drugs weighed 70 pounds and had a street value of more than $1 million, according to Briggs.
U.S. Border Patrol seized the cocaine.
Forecast models suggest Debby, which has now downgraded to a tropical storm, could stall, bringing catastrophic rainfall to Florida, Georgia and South Carolina over the coming days.
