Hurricane Debby blows $1 million worth of cocaine onto beach in Florida Keys, U.S. Border Patrol says

The drugs weighed 70 pounds and had a street value of more than $1 million, according to U.S. Border Patrol Acting Chief Patrol Agent Samuel Briggs II.

KEY WEST, Florida — Hurricane Debby made landfall in Florida Monday morning bringing more than just heavy rains and wind.

According to a post on X, U.S. Border Patrol Acting Chief Patrol Agent Samuel Briggs II said Hurricane Debby blew 25 packages of cocaine onto a beach in the Florida Keys.

Briggs said the packages of cocaine were found by a good Samaritan who then contacted authorities.

The drugs weighed 70 pounds and had a street value of more than $1 million, according to Briggs.

U.S. Border Patrol seized the cocaine.

Forecast models suggest Debby, which has now downgraded to a tropical storm, could stall, bringing catastrophic rainfall to Florida, Georgia and South Carolina over the coming days.
