BALTIMORE (AP) — How well do you know the history of the Preakness? Try this quiz:
1. Which horse had the largest margin of victory at the Preakness
A. Survivor
B. Smarty Jones
C. Funny Cide
D. American Pharoah
___
FUN FACT: Which trainer has the most wins at the Preakness? It's not Bob Baffert, yet. The Triple Crown-winning trainer won his sixth last year with American Pharoah, tying him with fellow Hall of Famer D. Wayne Lukas. He plans to send out new shooter Collected in an attempt to upset Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist — and tie the record held for a long time by Robert Wyndham Walden, who at one point strung together five in a row from 1878-1882.
Baffert's winners are Silver Charm (1997), Real Quiet (1998), Point Given (2001), War Emblem (2002), Lookin at Lucky (2010) and American Pharoah. Lukas' winners are Codex (1980), Tank's Prospect (1985), Tabasco Cat (1994), Timber Country (1995), Charismatic (1999) and Oxbow (2013).
___
2. Which jockey has ridden in the Preakness the most?
A. Pat Day
B. Eddie Arcaro
C. Gary Stevens
D. Victor Espinoza
___
FUN FACT: Unlike the Kentucky Derby, where there have been two 50-1 long-shot winners in the past 10 years, the same is not true for the Preakness. The second leg of the Triple Crown has smaller fields, and many from the Derby skip the Preakness because the race is just two weeks after the Run for the Roses. Huge upsets are rare. The largest payout on a $2 win bet came in 1975, when Master Derby won at odds of 23-1 and returned $48.80. Recently, the biggest upset occurred in 2013, when trainer D. Wayne Lukas' Oxbow won at 15-1 and returned $32.80 — the fifth highest payout for a $2 win bet.
