Power forward Andrew Nicholson agreed to a $26 million, four-year contract on Sunday with the Washington Wizards, who are working to add depth to their roster after missing the playoffs last season.
Nicholson's agent, Mark Bartelstein, confirmed the terms of the deal to The Associated Press.
Nicholson wrote on Twitter: "Truly blessed and honored to be part of the wizards organization! Thank you for this opportunity (and) can't wait to be in uniform!"
The 6-foot-9, 250-pound Canadian averaged 6.9 points and 3.6 rebounds last season, while playing under 15 minutes per game, for the Orlando Magic. He appeared in 56 games, all as a substitute.
Since being the 19th overall draft pick in 2012 by Orlando, Nicholson has averaged 6.5 points and 3.2 rebounds in four NBA seasons, with a total of 36 starts.
Nicholson's agreement with the Wizards was first reported by Yahoo Sports.
He is the second frontcourt addition in two days for the Wizards, who agreed Saturday to a $64 million, four-year contract with center Ian Mahinmi, according to a person familiar with the deal. The person spoke to the AP of anonymity because NBA free agents are not allowed to sign contracts until next Thursday.
Mahinmi should be able to offer Washington needed help with defense and rebounding. He is a 6-foot-11, 250-pound center who averaged career highs of 9.3 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.5 assists and about 25 minutes in 71 games, all starts, for the Indiana Pacers last season.
The 29-year-old Mahinmi, who is from France, was drafted in the first round by the San Antonio Spurs in 2005 and made his NBA debut in the 2007-08 season. For his career, he has averaged 5.1 points and 4.3 rebounds in less than 17 minutes.
In addition to bringing in Nicholson and Mahinmi, the Wizards have agreed to a $128 million, five-year contract to keep shooting guard Bradley Beal, who was a restricted free agent.
Washington cleared plenty of cap space heading into this offseason, and even after the agreements with Nicholson, Mahinmi and Beal during the opening days of free agency, the team only has eight players signed.
Last season, the Wizards went 41-41 to finish 10th in the Eastern Conference, after making two trips in a row to the second round of the playoffs. Randy Wittman was fired as head coach and replaced by Scott Brooks.
