HPD patrol unit hits woman crossing street in northwest Houston, police say

Police said there were two officers in the car at the time of the crash, a male passenger and a female driver, as well as a suspect from a previous scene.

HOUSTON — A woman was rushed to a hospital in critical condition after she was hit by a patrol car while crossing the street with three children in northwest Houston Thursday night, according to the Houston Police Department.

This happened around 11 p.m. on Antoine Street near Pinemont Drive.

Police said there were two officers in the car at the time of the crash, a male passenger and a female driver. They were transporting a narcotics suspect to jail at the time.

Witnesses told HPD that the woman had just gotten off a bus with three children and was crossing the road not in a crosswalk when she appeared to drop something. They said she was hit when she went down to grab it.

Officers provided first aid at the scene and the woman was taken to a hospital in critical condition. We don't yet know whether she will survive. HPD said the victim is a woman in her mid-30s or early-40s. The children range in age from 10 to 16.

Police said the officers and suspect were unhurt in the crash. The suspect was taken to the jail in a different unit.

The crash is under investigation by HPD's vehicular crime division and internal affairs.

HPD said they are looking for additional witnesses to get a better idea of what happened. If you know anything, contact police at 713-884-3131.
