HOUSTON — A woman is dead, and two others are injured after a single-vehicle crash involving a tree in west Houston overnight.
Houston police said the crash happened around 1 a.m. along North Eldridge Parkway, a little south of Interstate 10. Investigators said the driver went off the road and hit a tree. A backseat passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and a front-seat passenger were taken to a hospital. The extent of their injuries has not been disclosed.
Lt. Willkens with the Houston Police Department said the three women, all in their 20s, had been out for the night. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
"An investigation will happen, and they’ll figure out if there was anyone to blame or what were all the causes, any alcohol involved or not," he said. "But the investigation is ongoing for that, so prayers for their families and everyone that was involved in the accident."
The identity of the woman who died has not been released. No charges have been filed at this time.
