HOUSTON — Someone stole a trailer from a Houston Boy Scouts troop that caters to kids with special needs.
The scout master for Troop 609 noticed the trailer was missing Sunday. It was stored in the parking lot at The Westview School in west Houston.
It was filled with all of their camping gear, which includes tents and cooking equipment.
Members of the Boy Scouts troop, who are all on the autism spectrum, spent years raising money for all the equipment.
“What is nice about this stuff is that allows these kids to experience something they wouldn’t be able to experience," said Tony Hightower, Scout Master for Troop 609. "To be able to go out to the state parks, to the national parks, to the Boy Scouts sites around the state and have this gear so they can experience the outdoors. That’s really the importance of it.”
He says the camp outs give the 21 Scouts in the troop empowerment and confidence.
They hope their trailer and camping gear is returned in time for their next camp out in October.
If you’d like to help replace the stolen items, Troop 609 is collecting donations through their Facebook page.
