HOUSTON — Toyota Center is getting a new roof.
The Harris County Houston Sports Authority on Tuesday approved a proposal by the Houston Rockets to replace the existing one which has been in place since 2002-03.
The cost will be $7.5 to $8 million and will be paid for by the team.
The process to remove the existing roof and install the new one will take four to five months. It should start in September and be finished in March.
It won't affect the team's normal operation, Doug Hall, the general manager of Toyota Center and Clutch City Sport & Entertainment, told KHOU 11's Jason Bristol. The new roof will include a logo, which is still being developed, as well. The current model features a massive Toyota emblem and the words “Toyota Center.”
The new roof has a 20-year warranty and can handle hurricane winds of 146 miles per hour.
The Rockets examined bids from six vendors.
