HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A tow truck driver was struck and killed by a vehicle along the Northwest Freeway on Tuesday, according to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.

According to Houston TranStar, it happened in the eastbound (inbound) lanes just inside Beltway 8. It was verified around 5:15 p.m.

Gonzalez said the Harris County Sheriff's Office Vehicular Crimes Division responded to the scene.

According to Gonzalez, the tow truck driver was out of his truck loading up another vehicle when he was hit. Initially, Gonzalez said, the tow truck driver was in fair condition, but while he was being taken to an area hospital for treatment, his condition quickly deteriorated. He said he was in critical condition.

He was later pronounced dead, Gonzalez said.

The sheriff said the other drivers involved in the incident remained at the scene and didn't show any signs of impairment.
