Exciting details announced for Houston's 75th H-E-B Thanksgiving Day parade

Nine-time Olympic gold medalist Carl Lewis will serve as this year’s grand marshal and will be joined by other Houston-based Olympians.

HOUSTON — City officials revealed details for Houston's 75th annual H-E-B Thanksgiving Day Parade, a beloved tradition that attracts hundreds of thousands of Houstonians every year.

The parade is set to take place on Nov. 28, starting at Lamar and Smith, winding through downtown, and ending at Dallas and Smith. A detailed map of the full route will be released soon.

Nine-time Olympic gold medalist Carl Lewis will serve as this year’s grand marshal and will be joined by other Houston-based athletes who competed in the 2024 Paris Olympics and Paralympics.

Parade-goers can expect something special.

"We will add 19 colorful and unique floats made right here in Houston, 20 plus high-flying balloons, six marching bands, and numerous special performers," said Lisa Helfman, H-E-B’s managing director of public relations.

For many families, the parade is an annual tradition.

"You're going to see grandma to grandkids, and you're going to see the great cultural diversity that we have, not only watching the parade but also in the parade," parade producer and director Susan Christian said.

Local law enforcement is also making plans and preparations. 

"The Houston Police Department has been putting this event on for decades safely. we have a very heavy footprint of security for the community," Police Chief Noe Diaz said.

The event is free, though premium seating is available for $28.25. Other spectators are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. Plenty of parking will be available.

For those unable to attend in person, the parade will be broadcast live on KHOU 11, KHOU 11+ and our social media sites on Thursday, Nov. 28.
