'That could've been it' | Woman hit by her own car on I-635 multi-vehicle crash shares her experience during chaotic scene

Dallas police say 26-year-old Angel Zamora-Moreno is the man responsible for stabbing a man and running over people with their own vehicles

DALLAS, Texas — There’s not much Meghan Smith can do right now without feeling pain.

“I have second-degree burns on my leg, on my knees and ankle, burns on my shoulder, and a broken wrist,” said Smith.

Smith is one of the several victims injured during the chaotic multi-vehicle crash on I-635 last Tuesday.

“I’m just trying to piece it all back together and it’s difficult,” said Smith.

Dallas police say 26-year-old Angel Zamora-Moreno is the man responsible for stabbing a man and running over people with their vehicles. Police said three people were taken to hospitals. One man was taken in critical condition but is recovering. All westbound highway lanes at Forest Lane were shut down for more than four hours.

Smith, a nurse, was headed to work that morning when she saw a TxDOT employee get hit by a car.

“My first initial impression was that was an accident,” Smith said.

Smith got out to help, not realizing what would happen. Zamora-Moreno would then jump in her car, and drive towards her. She said she tried to run but Moreno hit her.

“That could’ve been it…and I’m so glad it wasn’t,” said Smith.

Several other people jumped in to help and were able to hold Zamora-Moreno down until police got to the scene.

Smith said she doesn’t regret jumping in to help.

“I’ve been told, I very possibly have pulled the aggression off of the TxDOT worker and that’s why he’s still alive,” she said.

Smith is not able to work for the next several weeks, and a GoFundMe was created to help her family pay the unexpected medical bills.

Smith said she wants justice for everyone impacted by this chaotic event.

“There are enough jerks in the world. We don’t all need to be one,” Smith said.
