HOUSTON — There's a scam targeting drivers using toll roads that we want to warn you about.
TxDOT said they're getting more reports of scammers who are pretending to work for TXTag, texting customers about current or missing payments.
But don't fall for it. TxDOT said it would never text customers about payments, but it might text people for other matters under another number. That number is 22498.
According to TxDOT, these text text phishing scams - also known as smishing – have been going on since April, but they said they’ve been on the rise lately.
If you believe you are a victim of these fraudulent texts, you're encouraged to file a complaint with the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center.
