BRAZORIA COUNTY, Texas — In what the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is calling a "Texas-sized milestone," come next Wednesday, biologists will have released 1 billion hatcher-produced fish into state waters.
The department said it has spent more than 40 years working to revitalize historic fisheries by stocking saltwater fish into Texas bays. The billionth fish stocked will be a red drum fingerling. TPWD said the fish's population has seen record highs due to fishery management.
The stock containing the billionth fish will take place at Seidler's Boat Ramp in Christmas Bay, located at 521 Amigo Lane in Freeport, Texas on July 31 at 9 a.m.
