MIDLOTHIAN, Texas -- Tarrant County's top digital investigators have joined Midlothian police in their search for Missy Bevers' murderer.
The fitness instructor and mother of three was murdered at Creekside Church of Christ on April 18. Surveillance video showing the suspected killer has been at the center of the case, and now several sets of expert eyes will give it a new look.
They are the Tarrant County DA’s Digital Forensics and Technology team. News 8 profiled them during the opening of their state-of-the-art facility in May of 2015. Investigators showed us how they can piece together huge amounts of digital clues to solve a case.
"We don’t realize how much data is stored on systems themselves -- through the cell phones, through the computers," said investigator Kyle Gibson.
This week, the team’s focus is the surveillance video of Bevers’ killer. They spent Thursday night at the scene of the crime, Creekside Church of Christ. They retraced the suspect’s steps seen in every frame captured on the motion-activated cameras. Each door frame was also measured, to better estimate the murderer’s height and width.
Midlothian police have long believed the answer as to who killed Bevers would come with the help of the video. Their hope is Tarrant County’s best digital minds can help them find it.
Bevers' murder is a high-profile case, but it's not this team's first. Members also helped in the investigation into the Kaufman County District Attorney murders in 2013.
