SMITHVILLE, Texas – A Smithville High School coach and teacher has resigned after an alleged racial comment he made in class in February, according to Smithville ISD officials.
According to the district, officials acted to fire William Foster after he allegedly asked a student, "Is he hanging from a tree in your front yard?" after a white student told him he had black relatives and wanted to participate in a Black History Month program in February.
Foster submitted his resignation letter to the school district on March 25. District officials said he has not been in class since Feb. 26, the day the incident allegedly took place.
