AUSTIN, Texas — Bad weather strolling through Southeast Texas put passengers in park Friday at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.
According to a statement from United Airlines, the airport "closed the ramp, preventing carriers from getting their customers to the gates."
On a Houston bound flight, a passenger tweeted his United plane was diverted to Austin due to the weather.
FlightAware.com shows that inbound 737, on the way from Cancun, landed just before 3 p.m. Friday afternoon. That is where it sat for more than six hours.
During the wait passengers were kept on the plane.
In its statement late Friday, United said the airline was working on bus transportation for the Houston bound passengers, adding that the ramp closure "affected many airlines at Austin tonight." But Flightaware.com showed that the stranded United flight was able to finally leave Austin at 10:30 p.m. Friday once the bad weather moved out of the area.
