DENTON, Texas — Progress is easy to see above Lewisville Lake. HD Chopper 8 captured aerial views of the construction on the new Lewisville Lake bridge Thursday afternoon.
But for drivers on I-35E, detours around the bridge make it hard for them to get around.
"Makes you feel a bit nervous," said driver Carolyn Dunn.
For the last three years, crews have worked on the new bridge as part of the $1.4 billion 35Express project.
But one look at the bridge Thursday and you realize why drivers are celebrating.
"We just can't wait," said driver Karen Dalton.
The elevated soutbound section of the new bridge is complete, and it will open to drivers Saturday morning.
"It'll relieve some of the pressure," Dalton added.
After upgrades are made to the old bridge, it will become the new northbound crossing. The entire span will go from six to 14 lanes.
Upgrades to the future northbound lanes are expected to continue through 2017.
