BRAZORIA COUNTY, Texas — A massive seizure had Texas Game Wardens seeing red near the mouth of the Brazos River last week.
Game wardens said they were patrolling the mouth of the Brazos when they encountered a boat full of recreational anglers.
When they approached the boat, the anglers turned their boat away, the game warden said. Once the warden finally made contact with the anglers, they discovered only three of the five had current fishing licenses.
Game wardens said they looked into the anglers’ haul and found they had 51 red snapper over the current bag limit. This also included 42 undersized snapper.
According to Texas Parks and Wildlife, the bag limit for red snapper is four fish per person for private recreational anglers in state waters. The fish caught have to be a minimum of inches long.
The game wardens seized the snapper and issued 50 citations to the group with restitution.
