HURST, Texas -- A man is believed to have burned a home and killed himself after assaulting his girlfriend Sunday afternoon.
The female victim told police that she left the house after her boyfriend had threatened to burn the house and potentially commit suicide if she contacted police about the assault.
Police arrived at the house on the 800 block of Crystal Lane and tried to contact the man. He walked outside the house but went back inside when he saw officers, according to information provided by Hurst Police.
Officers heard what they thought to be gunshots from inside the house just before the house caught fire. A man was found dead inside the house with an apparent self-inflicted gun shot wound to his head.
Firefighters were able to put out the fire before any other houses were affected. Hurst Police and Fire Departments are investigating the case.
