LUBBOCK, Texas -- A mysterious tunnel was creating a buzz in a neighborhood in Lubbock, Texas.
Lee Smithwick discovered it on his property when part of his yard collapsed.
Smithwick said he thought it was a sinkhole, but then he saw railroad ties.
He alerted the authorities and local historians to come check out the tunnel for themselves.
First they thought it might be a bunker type thing, but now it's definitely a tunnel. Smithwick said. So nobody know who built it or why they would build it.
City inspectors were considering what to do about the tunnel.
They're thinking maybe it's associated with the railroad back in 1909, but you're looking at an underground tunnel for 100 years, Smithwick said.
