FORT WORTH -- A bomb threat Thursday forced the Naval Air Station Fort Worth Joint Reserve Base to go into lockdown mode, which has since been partially lifted.
Karin Krause with the base said in a release that a suspicious package was left at the main gate of the base just before 9:30 a.m.
At about 1 p.m. the base said it was now allowing outbound traffic to go through the East Gate. An hour later the base opened that same gate to inbound traffic.
Employees trying to get in Thursday morning were urged to call their supervisors for instructions.
Naval Security Forces, the 301st Fighter Wing Explosive Ordinance Disposal Team and the Fort Worth Police Explosive Ordinance Disposal Team are investigating, Krause said.
"Out of abundance of caution, the installation's main gate will remain closed until further notice," the base said. "The closure is for the safety of installation personnel and the surrounding local community, which is the Navy's primary concern."
