HOUSTON — Many groups from Texas are already in Florida on standby to help after Hurricane Idalia makes landfall Wednesday morning.
Southeast Texas knows what it’s like to get hit with a devastating storm, so at least half of a dozen groups from Texas are ready to help.
Chris Fontaine is with a non-profit called Disaster Rescue Response Specialist.
"This is going to be a lot of chainsaw work because of the trees in the area. We’ll probably be clearing roads so the federal teams and local fire departments can focus on taking care of the communities," Fontaine said.
William Porter is with Team Rubicon, which helps with rescues. Hear what he had to say:
The Cajun Navy, another group of volunteers, is also in Florida. That group was one of many who helped Houstonians after Hurricane Harvey. They have rescue teams and drones staged and ready.
The Cajun Navy also has 18-wheelers full of supplies that hit the road on Wednesday.
