Houston restaurant owner injured in Lufkin plane crash

LUFKIN, Texas -- A Houston restaurant owner was hurt Friday morning when his twin-engine plane crashed along Highway 59, south of Lufkin.

Edd Hendee, who runs the Taste of Texas, was piloting the plane when it lost power.

The Texas Department of Transportation reported that the plane went down in a grassy median of the highway in the town of Diboll.

FAA registry indicates the Cessna 421B is owned by an individual in Houston.

Hendee and two passengers were heading back to Houston from Lufkin. All three were taken to St. Luke's Hospital in Lufkin and are expected to be OK.

Only one lane was getting by after the crash and traffic was backed up for miles.
