Hearne finances on hold after council fails to pass budget

HEARNE, Texas - As far as Hearne's finances are concerned, it appears the city isn't allowed to spend any more money. That's according to a Facebook post by Margaret Salvaggio, a member of the city council.

HEARNE, Texas - As far as Hearne's finances are concerned, it appears the city isn't allowed to spend any more money. That's according to a Facebook post by Margaret Salvaggio, a member of the city council.

Salvaggio published the post after Monday's council meeting. She says councilmembers Rodrick Jackson, Shirley Harris and Martha Castellija didn't show up.

As a result, the council couldn't vote on the budget and therefore spending is on hold.

We reached out to John Naron, the city manager, and he confirmed three councilmembers were absent and voting on the budget didn't take place.

As for what's next, Naron referred KAGS to the city's legal team in Austin. KAGS made a phone call to the firm and followed up with an email but didn't hear back from the lawyers.

The city's next meeting is Oct. 6.
