The Denton police chief is leaving for another job later this summer and two of his deputy chiefs have also resigned, a city official confirmed

Chief Lee Howell was named to the same position at the Saginaw Police Department in June. His final day with the Denton department is expected to be Aug. 6, according to officer Shane Kizer, police spokesman.

Deputy Chief Scott Fletcher, who supervises the department's criminal investigations bureau, is resigning July 27. Deputy Chief Roger White is resigning Aug. 1.

It was unclear why Fletcher and White are resigning.

Howell had been police chief in Denton since October 2011. Before that, he was the chief deputy for the Denton County sheriff's department since 2005.
