CHEROKEE COUNTY, Texas — The death toll has now climbed to four in the area around the city of Alto.
A three and eight year old reportedly died in a car in Angelina County. The Houston County Sheriff confirmed one person was killed in the storm. A woman was also killed at Caddo Mounds State Historic Site in Cherokee County.
Cherokee County Sheriff James Campbell says 150 people were at the Caddo Mounds State Historic Site for a Native American heritage festival.
The tornado scattered more than 40 cars.
Eight people suffered critical injuries. The sheriff estimated 30-40 people had minor injuries.
It took emergency responders two hours to get to the site, because of trees blocking the road.
In Alto, police chief Jeremy Jackson says about 25 people were trapped in their homes and cars.
The tornadoes ripped through 150 structures, including 25 buildings that are destroyed.
Alto ISD has canceled classes Monday.
