GUADALUPE COUNTY, Texas – Texas Rangers are investigating two people for allegedly scamming elderly people out of thousands of dollars.

Investigators said Cody Weinheimer, 42, and Tarra Schwartz, 44, found many of their victims at small churches in and around South and Central Texas.

Using different aliases, authorities said the two would tell churchgoers that Schwartz was gravely ill and needed money for medical bills.

The couple allegedly found some of their victims in Seguin at the Hillcrest Assembling of God.

According to an arrest affidavit out of Guadalupe County, two couples from that church, in good faith, gave the couple more than $20,000 out of their personal bank accounts.

The two allegedly swindled more than $100,000 from another couple near San Angelo.

We spoke with a New Braunfels woman who claimed she was also a victim of the suspects.

She said she met Schwartz and Weinheimer through mutual friends and eventually the couple started asking her for money to pay for medical bills.

Six months and $8,000 later she started getting an uneasy feeling about the duo.

In September 2014, she was contacted by an investigator with the Texas Rangers and learned she was one of several allegedly scammed by the couple.

"I can't believe someone can look you straight in the eye and take your money."

Texas Rangers on a tip, found Schwartz, a wanted fugitive hiding out at Weinheimer's New Braunfels home in September 2014.

A few months later, both were charged with prescription drug fraud.

Investigators said there could be more victims.
