NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas — Authorities have reopened the Comal River in New Braunfels to recreation on Monday. The river was closed Sunday after heavy rains caused high and fast moving water.
New Braunfels police said Monday morning that the river was flowing at normal levels, which is around 240 cubic feet per second. Water clarity is still murky, so officials advise those entering the river to be cautious of unseen debris.
On Sunday, the Comal River flowed at around 700 cubic feet per second, and water went over the top of the Tube Chute Dam.
The Guadalupe River in New Braunfels remains closed to tubing. Only rafting and kayaking are allowed, and guided rafting trips through local river outfitters are highly advised.
In addition, the National Weather Service issued a Flash Flood Watch for New Braunfels and Comal County through Thursday morning, so more heavy rains are possible.
