CORPUS CHRISTI – The U.S. Coast Guard and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department rescued three boaters Saturday night.
The Coast Guard received a distress call around 9:30 near South Padre Island regarding three people whose boat had run aground. Those three said they were diabetic and were low on food.
The Coast Guard launched a boat and the TPWD launched an airboat for rescue. All three were rescued safely.
"With weather conditions deteriorating quickly and all three persons in need of medical attention, we responded quickly to transport the distressed mariners to safety," said Lt. Cmdr. Nathan Allen. "It is imperative that boaters always have enough life jackets for everyone onboard, have sufficient and appropriate medical supplies, always carry a marine VHF radio capable of calling for help, and have a boating plan and communicate it with friends and family."
