SAN ANTONIO -- A female detention officer at the Bexar County jail was arrested Wednesday night for driving while intoxicated.
The 27-year-old officer has been identified as Sergeant Stephanie Vega. District clerk records indicate Vega is still in custody at the Bexar County Central Magistrate's Office.
San Antonio Police issued a warrant for a blood draw on Vega Thursday, after she refused to provide a breath sample.
The warrant for a blood draw indicates Sgt. Vega was seen swerving near Loop 410 and Babcock Road around 2:30 a.m.
The arresting officer wrote that he saw Vega's vehicle "weaving side to side consistently" and traveling 84 MPH in a 65 MPH zone. The officer also wrote that Vega's vehicle nearly struck a concrete barrier on the shoulder multiple times.
After speaking with Vega, the officer reported that she "smelled of alcohol" but was cooperative. Vega reportedly told the officer that she had had three vodka and coke drinks at a local dancehall earlier in the night.
A spokeswoman for the Bexar County Sheriff's Office said she wasn't ready to comment on questions posed by KENS 5.
Vega is a supervisor for the jail's Special Emergency Response Team, which are some of the highest-trained officers with BCSO.
According to an article titled Rising Star in Bexar County: Detention Sergeant's Unintended Journey, Vega was recently "promoted to sergeant and earned her certified correction supervisor designation from the American Correctional Association."
