COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Friday marked 17 years since a bonfire collapse took the lives of 12 Aggies.
"To me, you know, a flower is the best remembrance I can give," said student Kelly Keller, who visits the memorial regularly. He brought a flower to place at the memorial.
Keller grew up in College Station and remembers the tragedy from when he was a child.
"I remember seeing the fence that they put up around the area," he said. "Seeing people drop off letters, pictures, candles, people leaving money, people leaving their Aggie rings."
The site is a place he finds unity.
"It brought everybody closer together," he said. "It should be more than just once a year that we remember back on that and we look back on how much it united us and where we are today from where we were back then."
