Here's why you could see a heavy police presence in east downtown on Tuesday

HPD warned residents and businesses in the area just east of downtown that they could hear "noises sounding like bangs" while the exercises are taking place.

HOUSTON — The Houston Police Department SWAT team and Harris County Sheriff's Office SWAT team will be taking part in "pre-planned training exercises" at Shell Energy Stadium on Tuesday.

The exercises are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

They'll happen inside and outside of the stadium, HPD said.

Police said they'll be working on two different scenarios.

They are warning residents and businesses in the area just east of downtown that they could hear "noises sounding like bangs" while the exercises are taking place.

HPD said streets around the stadium will be closed beginning at 10 a.m. They said HPD will have a team in place to help with traffic control during the hour. They said equipment will start arriving in the area around 9 a.m. and should be leaving by noon.

HPD said the training exercises pose no safety risk to the public.
