SUGAR LAND, Texas — A man is dead after an early morning chase ended when he crashed into a tree and was ejected from his car in Sugar Land on Sunday, according to a spokesperson for the city.
A Sugar Land police officer reportedly attempted to pull the man over for speeding on West Airport Boulevard near Eldridge Parkway around 3:30 a.m. when a brief chase ensued that only lasted about a minute. The driver lost control and hit a tree, launching him from the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash shut West Airport Boulevard down for hours Sunday morning as an investigation was underway. As of 8:40 a.m., the Sugar Land Police Department said the road was still closed between Dairy Ashford and Industrial.
