HOUSTON — "My son has the biggest heart anyone could ever had."
Michelle Puckett said she was left heartbroken after thieves broke into her son's truck and stole thousands of dollars worth of equipment. He was in the process of building an RV park for survivors of domestic violence, but now, his dream of helping others has been put on hold.
Nearly 20 years ago, Charles Puckett was involved in a violent motorcycle crash, testing his faith.
"Left him partially paralyzed, his left arm and his back," Michelle said.
But after a long recovery, she said Charles found his purpose in life.
"We help mentor autistic and intellectually challenged adults," Michelle said.
Recently, Charles decided to take his advocacy work to new heights. He hopes to provide housing and job opportunities for survivors of domestic violence as well as adults with intellectual challenges.
"He's been working on this on his own with one arm," Michelle said about his work on the RV park. "He's in pain 24/7."
That work came to a halt on May 30 when thieves broke into several vehicles on their street.
"The truck window, they pulled it out, jumped in, scratched the whole side, stole a lot of his power tools and then ran off," Michelle said.
The thieves made off with about $5,600 of tools. Michelle said their auto and renters insurance companies are pointing the finger at each other, leaving his dream on hold.
"It's heartbreaking," she said. "He can't do anything without his tools."
Michelle has just one request for those responsible: "We're not trying to start trouble for anyone ... just return them (the tools)."
The family set up a GoFundMe campaign to help replace the tools he needs to make his dream a reality. If you'd like to donate, click here.
