HOUSTON — A fire continues to burn at a three-acre construction site in Spring Branch, sending clouds of smoke into the Tuesday morning sky.
Neighbors near and far have been complaining about the smoke online and say they were caught by surprise.
Now they are anxious to know when the fire in the 2200 block of Hollister Road will stop. There are homes right across the street and the site is not far from an elementary school.
“There's a bunch of ash in my backyard and my house smells like smoke,” Reagan Hutson, neighbor, said. “I mean they say it's controlled I'm just trying to find out the facts.”
Firefighters responded to the site earlier Monday and had to bring the fire under control, according to the Houston Fire Department. They first posted about the fire just before 11:30 a.m.
The fire department said the burning piles consist of large mulch, tree debris, logs stacked up to 15 feet high, and live trees as well.
The contractor was contacted and told it would need a mitigation company, according to HFD. Fire department units will remain at the site until they arrive.
The Houston Health Department is monitoring the air quality which was within the healthy range as of the last report. Health officials said the wind will help blow the smoke out of the area.
Officials said for now, there is no shelter in place or need to evacuate.
