GALVESTON, Texas — Leather, long beards and lots of loud engines.
It’s the largest four-day motorcycle rally in North America. The Lone Star Rally has come to the island.
Promotors said 400,000 people will be attending the event this year – making it the biggest yet.
Vendors said Friday is the biggest night they’ve seen so far as the party heads into the weekend.
“I’ve heard some numbers of north of a hundred million, yeah, it’s huge numbers,” event organizer Mark Gray said. “I’ve heard things back and forth but the hotels are filled, everybody’s eating, restaurants are filled, the streets are filled.”
More than 300 vendors will be at the event selling their goods, food and beer.
For the first time, half of Seawall Boulevard is blocked off to accommodate the endless parade of bikes and vehicles cruising the streets. Law enforcement officers will be on standby monitoring the crowds for what promoters said will be a very safe event.
Promoters said there are two factors that will help break the attendance record this year. The first is the fantastic weather. The second is that the Astros aren’t playing in the World Series.
