HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — An early morning apartment fire left dozens of residents displaced on Sunday, according to the Klein Fire Department.
KFD said units were sent to the apartments shortly before 4:30 a.m. and the fire was burning heavily when they arrived. This happened at the Santa Cruz apartments, which is located on Kuykendahl Road at FM 1960.
Authorities said firefighters offensively attacked the fire for about 20 minutes before they had to pull out and take a defensive position as the fire spread quickly.
A total of 24 units were impacted by the fire, accounting for 80 to 100 residents, KFD said. Red Cross was at the scene to help provide relief and temporary shelter to those impacted.
KFD said most residents were only able to get out with the clothes on their backs.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined. The Harris County Fire Marshal's Office is investigating.
The Ponderosa Fire Department, Little York Fire Department, Spring Fire Department, and Champions Fire Department were on scene to help fight the fire.
