HOUSTON - Rice University announced Monday its campus will remain gun free.
The university's President David Leebron said there is no evidence guns on campus would make the school safer.
He also added the faculty, staff and students overwhelmingly opposed the idea of having guns on campus.
Rice joins a growing list of private universities that are opposing the new law. Other universities include Baylor, TCU and SMU.
The Texas Campus Carry law will allow licensed concealed guns on university campuses next year. The law is expected to go into effect in August.
