JACKSON. Miss. A 23-year-old Texas A&M graduate is fighting for her life after she was critically injured in a car accident last week while on her way to a water-ski tournament.
Amanda Hoffman was sleeping in the backseat of the car without a seat belt on while traveling with two teammates to a water-ski tournament in North Carolina when the accident occurred east of Jackson. Hoffman was thrown from the car and suffered a severe brain injury, which has left her in coma ever since.
KBTX News 3 in spoke with Hoffman s mother and best friend, who said the Aggie spirit is helping them during this difficult time.
She s just amazing. She s smart, she s beautiful, she s funny, she s the light of anyone s world who know her, said Samantha Stern, Hoffman s best friend.
Hoffman just graduated from A&M and was the team captain of the school s club water-ski team.
Stern is leaving her job in Bryan to stay with Hoffman s mother in Mississippi for the recovery.
I know it s going to be difficult to see but she would do it for me and I have absolutely no question about that, said Stern.
More than $10,000 has been raised to help Hoffman s family, and Diana Hoffman, Amanda s mother, is grateful for the Aggie network and prayers.

As Stern is preparing to move, she hopes to train Amanda Hoffman s dog, Sophia, into a therapy dog for her recovery.
You can never guarantee anything with the body, but we re praying she ll wake up when the doctors want her to wake up, said Stern.
Hoffman is still in intensive care at a hospital in Jackson, and doctors said she is making progress.
No one else in the car was seriously injured.
