Deputy constable fired after deadly crash in east Houston, Precinct 6 says | Police say he was driving wrong way

The crash happened on Canal Street about a block from The Original Ninfa's on Navigation, east of downtown.

HOUSTON — A Harris County Precinct 6 deputy constable has been fired following a deadly crash east of downtown Houston. Houston police said the constable was driving the wrong way.

A spokesperson for the Precinct 6 Constable's Office confirmed that Rigo Villeda Vivar has been terminated. 

He said Vivar was involved in an accident that killed someone in the other vehicle. It happened on Canal Street, not far from the Original Ninfa's on Navigation, around 1:30 p.m. Saturday. 

The Houston Police Department is handling the investigation. HPD said the 28-year-old victim's identity is pending verification from the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

Investigators said Vivar was trying to skip traffic when he drove the wrong way down Canal Street.

We don't yet know if Vivar will face charges.
