$1 million winning ticket sold in Houston area as someone hit Powerball jackpot in Georgia

This is the second time this week that a $1 million winning ticket was sold in the Houston area.

CYPRESS, Texas — For a second time this week, someone in the Houston area is waking up $1 million richer after hitting on a Powerball ticket from Wednesday night’s drawing.

The winning ticket, a quick pick, was purchased at the Kroger on Barker Cypress Road near Tuckerton Road in Cypress. On Monday, a $1 million winning ticket was purchased in the Humble area.

Someone hit the $478.2 million Powerball jackpot after a winning ticket was purchased in Buford, Georgia Wednesday night.

The winning numbers for Wednesday's drawing were 2-15-27-29-39, Powerball 20.

The winner has the option to take the full jackpot paid out over 30 years, or a smaller cash payout. Winners almost always take the cash option.

Even with the smaller lump sum payout, federal taxes will eat into those winnings, and some states also tax big lottery prizes. Powerball is played in 45 states, as well as Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
