Police: River Oaks father, son argued before attempted murder-suicide

Police say a 21-year-old man argued with his father Sunday before pulling out a gun and shooting him inside their River Oaks home. Eugene Hawk, a prominent attorney, ran to a neighbor's house with a gunshot wound to his head.

Eugene Hawk, a prominent attorney, ran to a neighbor's house with a gunshot wound to his head.

Blake Edward Hawk then shot and killed himself.

Police recovered the gun at the scene.

The elder Hawk was rushed to Ben Taub Hospital where his condition was upgraded to good on Monday.

The shooting happened around 1 p.m. Sunday in the 3400 block of Ella Lee.

Neighbors stumbled upon the gruesome scene after hearing a commotion. They tried to help as Hawk lie bleeding in a neighbor's yard.

"You wanted to help immediately. You wanted to elevate his feet, tell him to remain calm and help was on the way," neighbor Nancy Wells said.

Investigators said the two men were the only people home at the time of the shootings.

The elder Hawk called poilce after the argument with his son, according to HPD records.

Neighbors said they were shocked by the violent scene.

"It was very difficult to process anything that unusual," neighbor Ben Wells said.

Eugene Hawk is an executive vice president and general counsel for Crown Castle International in Houston.
